Kirk Cousins has another initiation coming this weekend: a visit to Lambeau Field.Cousins and the Vikings play in Green Bay on Sunday, an earlier than usual contest for control of the NFC North. The only other times since 2000 that the Vikings have faced the Packers on the road in September were the season openers in 2003 and 2008.More Vikings coverageVikings coordinators: Defending Brees, Holton Hill’s role, a Minneapolis Miracle story and moreWATCH: The second annual Minnesota Sports AwardsVikings welcome Everson Griffen back to practiceVikings captain Griffen returns to Adam Thielen Jersey Black Friday team activitiesVikings Snap Counts: Rookie Hill shines with Rhodes ailingFor Cousins, well, talk about diving right in.“It’s a great opportunity to join this rivalry and hopefully put my best foot forward and get off to a great start,” said Cousins, who grew up in the Chicago area and then western Michigan and, thus, has been immersed in one of the NFL’s most storied divisions his whole life as a football follower. This will be his first playing experience at Green Bay, too. When Washington traveled there in 2013, he was the backup to Robert Griffin III. Now he’ll be the fifth Vikings quarterback to start in the last five visits to Lambeau Field.“You realize how important it is for this organization, for our fans https://www.minnesotavikingsshop.com/Mike-Remmers-Jersey ,” Cousins said Wednesday.Cousins passed for 244 yards and two touchdowns without a turnover in a smooth Minnesota debut, a 24-16 victory over San Francisco. The downside? All seven of his pass attempts in the fourth quarter, including one throwaway on the final play, were incomplete. That’s uncharacteristic for a quarterback who’s had a strong track record of success late in games, since he became a full-time starter in 2015. He directed two fourth-quarter comeback victories that year, four in 2016 and one in 2017.“Some quarterbacks have a reputation of doing them,” Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said. “Some quarterbacks make it so that they don’t really have to do it in the fourth quarter, too. A lot of times it’s opportunities. A lot of times it’s the team around you. There are so many variables.”All eyes will be on Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers, whose聽status for Sunday will be a mystery until pregame warmups聽. So Cousins could fly a little lower on the radar for this one than his normal front-and-center situation after signing his $84 million, fully guaranteed contract with the Vikings this year. The circumstances were different, but Cousins already has two strong performances against the Packers on his resume.Though Washington lost that playoff game at home on Jan. 10, 2016, Cousins completed 29 of 46 passes for 329 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. The following season when Green Bay returned to FedEx Field Marcus Sherels Color Rush Jersey , Cousins went 21 for 30 for 375 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in a victory.“I’ve taken a lot of steps as a player and in my confidence,” Cousins said, reflecting on his progress since those matchups. “So I think that’s true of all of us in the league. The longer we play, the more we’re out there, the more we’re able to be in the fire and playing through mistakes and learning, it helps us be that much better the next time we go out.”The Vikings are pleased to be the beneficiaries.“The last two years, we’ve had a new quarterback by Week 2,” tight end Kyle Rudolph said. “The last few years we’ve been in a situation with a new quarterback that we didn’t get many reps with during the offseason. It is nice to be out there with a guy we’ve been working with since the middle of April and build a rapport with.” MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Adam Thielen was putting together yet another stellar performance for the Minnesota Vikings, who were on the verge of extending a three-point lead late in the second quarter when Thielen plunged forward for extra yardage after a short first-down catch.New Orleans defenders P.J. Williams and Alex Anzalone converged and pried the ball loose at the 14, and Marshon Lattimore scooped up the fumble to start a 54-yard return . Two plays later, the Saints were in the end zone to complete that sharp momentum shift right before halftime in their 30-20 victory on Sunday night .“That’s probably the biggest reason we lost the game,” said Thielen, who had seven receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown. “When you have the momentum going into the half Brian O'Neill Jersey , you’re going to score points and then you get a chance to get the ball in the second half, that’s a huge play. It can’t happen, and obviously I’m going to take ownership of it.”In the third quarter, the other half of Minnesota’s dominant wide receiver duo made a costly mistake, too. Stefon Diggs, who had his own standout game with 10 catches for 119 yards and a score, stopped a drag route too soon while an under-pressure Kirk Cousins tried to dump the ball off but had it intercepted by P.J. Williams for a 45-yard touchdown return .“It was all on me, and the guy got an easy pick,” Diggs said. “Maybe if we could get that play back, things would be different.”The last time the Vikings faced the Saints, Diggs famously turned a sideline catch into a 61-yard touchdown on the last play of their NFC divisional round playoff game to beat the Saints 29-24. The “Minneapolis Miracle,” it was called. This time, for all the highlight-reel and chain-moving catches Thielen and Diggs made during this prime-time game, the moments that stood out the most were these twin Minneapolis mistakes.“We turned the ball over Rashod Hill Jersey Black Friday , yes,” coach Mike Zimmer said. “This is still a good football team.”Thielen, who matched the all-time NFL record set first by Calvin Johnson for Detroit in 2012 with his eighth straight 100-yard game, was having a hard time accepting any of his positive contributions afterward given the potential 14-point swing his fumble produced in a game the Vikings ultimately lost by 10.“You’re the best player on our football team,” Cousins told Thielen immediately after the turnover. “It happens.”Unfortunately for the Vikings (4-3-1), it happened at one of the worst possible times. The same went for Diggs on the second-and-8 play from the Minnesota 44 with New Orleans leading 20-13.“What’s interesting about it is they have been so good, and you take for granted the fact that they’re human and mistakes happen,” said Cousins, who went 31 for 41 for 359 yards. He added: “We have a good locker room and a good group of guys who stay together and play hard for one another, and that’s going to be a big piece of our story here down the stretch the last eight games.”
